My uncle George Lees was aboard and died on HMS Spartan.. I never got a chance to meet him but I’m so proud of him and every crewman who lost their lives that fateful day… RIP HMS Spartan and her gallant crew.. So so sad
I have just discovered this. Doing my family history I am now moving away from my direct ancestors. My grandmother’s cousin was Herbert Irvine Holland, leading stoker on the Spartan. What a tragedy that he was killed age 28. The family never said anything about it.

My great grandad was a survivor. Joe Schofield was his name. I would love to get some more info on the ships logs and history
My brother Fred Fairclough was on HMS Spartan but survived and was taken to Malta
