My uncle, Corporal Gilbert Stephen MANTOSH, Royal Air Force, along with his five RAF comrades were doing Radar tracking on board the HMS LST 305 off the coast of Anzio, Italy, when the Royal Navy ship was hit by torpedoes fired from German submarine U-230.
They bodies were never recovered. Subsequently, the ship also sank. They are all remembered with honour at the War Memorial, Valletta, Malta.
Shall appreciate if anyone has any further information.
