  1. Peter James Jennings

My father Percival James Jennings was a driver in the Royal Corps of Signals. He fought at Alemein after which he caught maleria and was hospitalised in Durban South Africa before re-joining the war in Italy. I believe he came in at Salerno but Monte Casino and Anzio. I am certain that at the end of the he was billeted in a small hotel a few hundred metres from Castello Miramare near Montfalcone. After this he went to Milan where I have a programme with a Black Cat for a concert in La scala for Allied troops. He was also billited in The Excelsior Hotel in Venice. He was also in Lake Como around the time Musselini was captured
I love Italy and have spent many holidays in Tuscany but I would like to try to trace my father’s trail up through Italy. He has the Italy Star. Can you please help me

My Wife’s Uncle Frederick Charles Cottom

fought and died at Monte Cassino, other than that we have no knowledge about when his regiment entered the battle or how and where he was killed
If anyone knew Fred or may have any further information we would love to hear from them

  3. David Arthur Turnbull

My Dad, Arthur William TURNBULL was at Monte Casino and was one of the men who crossed the Rapido before digging in under heavy mortar and machine gun fire. He was responsible for repairing the broken wireless cable that led to the message being successfully relayed that the first bridgehead over the Rapido was complete, so that the first tanks could cross to attack the stronghold.

Hi, My Grandfather Sapper Edwin Singleton no 3454186, Was posted to first North Africa, where he appears to have served for 2 yrs 9 mths, then Italy for 1 yr 3 mths. According to his record he was awarded both the North Africa Star and Italy Star. he was a railway man all his life, and his record says he was posted to the 16th movement area. Unfortunately i don’t know what that means. Could anyone assist please?

  7. Dani Sullivan

Hello. I am at present researching my family history, my Dad was awarded the Italy Star although I have no idea what regiment he was in. All I know is that he was also at some point in India. Any information or advice would be really helpful.

    Best wishes

  8. TERRY WAIT

Hi, my late father Ernest Wait was a sapper in 13 Mechanical Equipment Company, Royal Engineers building and repairing runways, roads etc.. in Algeria and then into Italy, as dad passed 54 years ago when I was young all the information I have gained is from war diaries at Kew. To this end I have written a short book for children and grand children.
What I was unable to find out is : in Africa he was part of the 1st Army, when his company moved to Sicily and Italy would he been part of the 8th army – furthermore what division would he have been in ?
    Many Thanks in anticipation
    Terry

    Hi,
I am looking for anyone who may remember my grandfather – Leslie Herbert Phipps. Injured at Monte Camino as far as I know and then evacuated to Lake Como. He didn’t return home for 3 years and we would love to try to get know him better through his war experiences recalled by others. Sadly my grandfather passed away in 1983 and coincidently I married an Italian so we are very curious to know about the landings at Salerno and ensuing ordeals faced by the Guards.

  10. Barbara Lagunas

My Father Albert Vernon Briggs was a second lieutenant in the Signals Corps who was in Bari, Brindisi and Trieste I believe at the end of the war. He was in a unit re-establishing communications at airfields for the allies as the Germans were retreating. Previously he had been in the RAF on Lancaster Bombers. I have been unable to find any trace of his service records and wondered if you could help me to find out a bit more about him. He was born in Leeds on 24th October 1915 and died in Poole, Dorset on 9th October 1980.I think he had the Italy Star medal among others, but I sadly do not have his medals. Many thanks for any information you can supply.I may still have some photos
