Hi I am trying to get any information about my great uncle
Wireman Thomas Feeney D/MX 103626 who died Jan. 24, 1944 age 19
I know he was a crew member of LCT 542 I also know he was wounded
and transferred to HM Hospital Carriers St. David which was latter sunk
By a Luftwaffe dive-bomber, my G grandmother was also told he had his leg amputated on board and Captain Jenkin Robert Oswald Thompson the ship
surgeon had gone below and stayed with him as he was to ill to be moved
Thompson was posthumously awarded the George Cross
Found this on the net about USS Weight but no other info on 542
However, Weight’s work off the Anzio beaches was not yet done. In company with the British salvage vessel Weazel and aided by bulldozers ashore, she attempted to salvage the grounded British tank landing craft, LCT 542.
Would love to have any proof, info on LCT 542 also any other info to help
Find the truth as it is just a story passed down
Thank Richard
